Birds of a feather

"It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them."- Ralph Waldo Emerson
It would be difficult to define what would be a friend, especially best friend. It would be a friend who would do what is right for you. To me, friends are very important. I'm so lucky to have a friend who always understand what I'm thinking. He is the one who always besides me, cheers me up when I'm in bad mood, and helps me to solve my problem. Even though we have been friend for over 15 years, there are some similarities and differences between us.
First, when I first met Dinh, we were in kindergarten. Then, we had been in the same class throughout primary school and high school. What a coincidence! Now, he lives in Texas, far away from here, so we don't have a chance to hang out as much as we did in Vietnam. We have quarreled a few hundred times. However, through all that we have remained the best of friends. We know each other quite well and it is clear to both of us that we will be friends forever.
Second, our major is similar as well. Our parents do business, so they want us to study Business Administration. Nevertheless, I know exactly what I want in my life. Chemical engineering is the best choice to me. I did tell him about that. I was suprised when I knew that his major is the same as me. Although engineering is extremely hard, we will try our best to get our object and master this field.
Last of all, we differ in personality and hobbies. Dinh always smiles. He smiles because he wants to make the other person happy or to make himself happy. He smiles whenever people speak to him, regardless of whether they are right or wrong. In contrast, I only smile when I'm happy. Actually, he is an active guy. He likes to read true stories and looks about true life. Instead, I like to read real science fiction stories and mystery stories. While Dinh prefers playing soccer, basketball, I like to play some indoor games, such as ping pong, and some other electronic games.
When I am with Dinh, I feel completely at ease. I can do whatever I want as Ralph Waldo Emerson said, because we know each other pretty well. He always goes with me through every trouble, and help me to solve it. I'm proud of having a friend like him.

  1. Ha ha! This is great, Daniel. I love how you're drinking Vietnam's national drink: "Heineken". And for the record, you can afford to be "stupid" in our class, too -- I always am!

  2. We are so lucky because you and I have the best friends and can keep these friendships for a long time. However, you are luckier than me since you have a chance to meet your close friend here. Texas is not too far from here compare to our hometown.
